InstallShield Scripting Engine is a Windows runtime component required by installers built with InstallShield’s InstallScript technology. It supplies the scripting libraries and COM services those installers need to initialize, display dialogs, and run custom installation logic. The engine is typically deployed automatically by a setup (often via isscript.msi) and may appear in Programs and Features, but it isn’t an app you run on its own. Removing it won’t uninstall existing programs, but it can prevent some older InstallShield-based installers from launching until the engine is reinstalled. It’s a legitimate, widely used component; if you see installation errors such as “1607” or “1628,” repairing or reinstalling the scripting engine and running the installer with administrative rights often resolves the issue.
InstallShield Scripting Engine is developed by InstallShield Software Corp.. The most popular version of this product among our users is 3.0.
